Increasing population and infrastructure demands spur HNTB growth in Tallahassee

Ken Morefield, David Crombie, Steven Petty join firm’s transportation team

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 12, 2017) – HNTB Corporation, a national infrastructure firm celebrating more than a century of service to clients, is growing in Tallahassee to help meet the state’s infrastructure needs. The recent hiring of three professionals adds valuable capabilities to the firm’s portfolio.

“These new hires boost our team’s expertise and will help bring creative and efficient solutions to our clients who are working to improve the state’s multimodal transportation network,” said Len Becker, PE, West Florida office leader and vice president.

Ken Morefield, PE, regional business development manager, has four decades of transportation experience. He has served in a variety of positions with the Florida Department of Transportation including, assistant secretary for engineering and operations; District 2 secretary; chief engineer; director of design; and director of the Office of Environmental Management. He also served as southeast regional manager and highway practice leader and director of transportation for 10 years at another engineering consulting firm.

Morefield serves as a key liaison between HNTB and its clients, evaluating and analyzing projects through financial feasibility studies, market research and planning.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Florida.

“Ken’s extensive experience with FDOT has given him a wealth of knowledge and insight into Florida’s transportation needs,” said Charlie Herndon, PE, HNTB Florida district leader and senior vice president.

David Crombie, PE, project engineer, has more than six years of experience in environmental design, permitting and management. His areas of expertise include wetland delineation and evaluation; wetland mitigation planning and monitoring; environmental resource permitting; and regulatory agency coordination. At HNTB, Crombie will continue working on the environmental side of various transportation projects.

Crombie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Florida State University.

“David has gained valuable experience on significant projects throughout Florida,” said Craig Toth, PE, group director and vice president. “He knows what it takes to help our clients deliver effective transportation solutions.”

Additionally, Steven Petty, technical writer, has joined HNTB’s Tallahassee office.

HNTB currently employs 30 professionals in Tallahassee, including two of the firm's senior leaders and industry stalwarts: Ananth Prasad, PE, national transportation practice leader and senior vice president; and Jim Ely, DPA, national toll practice advisor and senior vice president.

In Tallahassee and Chipley, Florida, HNTB is involved in some of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects and programs, including the FDOT District 3 general engineering consultant contract and a statewide FDOT transportation systems maintenance and operations contract. Additionally, HNTB is serving on a chief engineer contract, a commercial vehicle operations/traffic incident management contract, a motor carrier contract and an autonomous vehicle deployment contract for FDOT’s Central Office.
