Increasing infrastructure and technology demands spur HNTB growth in Jacksonville

Firm moves office location; adds professionals; seeks to fill additional positions

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 28, 2019) – HNTB Corporation, a national infrastructure solutions firm, is growing its employee count and office space in Jacksonville to help meet the region’s infrastructure needs.

In a recent census listing showing the nation’s 15 most-populous cities, Jacksonville ranked 12th, just ahead of San Francisco, Columbus, Ohio and Fort Worth, Texas. With this steady growth, comes increased congestion and a need for mobility enhancements. HNTB added six professionals in the past nine months to its Jacksonville office to deliver projects for its clients in the region.

To accommodate these personnel additions and anticipated five new staff in 2019, HNTB relocated its office to The Quadrant 1, 4651 Salisbury Road in Jacksonville.

“North Florida is seeing dramatic growth and expansion of its transportation infrastructure, and HNTB’s team brings creative solutions to transportation agencies working to implement needed mobility options,” said Terry Shaw, PE, HNTB associate vice president in Jacksonville.

As key transportation priorities and large projects take shape in the region, HNTB anticipates further expansion of its local workforce of engineers, technology experts, construction management personnel and other professionals in coming years. “HNTB is committed to serving the long-term transportation needs of the Jacksonville area,” said Ken Morefield, PE, HNTB’s Northeast Florida area manager.

The office’s core strengths include construction management, final design, transportation technology, systems planning, among others. In 2018, HNTB was named Technology Systems Integrator for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, which recently received a $12.5 million BUILD Grant for the deployment of a 17-vehicle autonomous vehicle system along Bay Street in Downtown Jacksonville called the Ultimate Urban Circulator.

In North Florida, HNTB currently is working on some of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects and programs, including general planning consultant for the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization’s BayJax Innovation Corridor; construction management of Florida Department of Transportation District 2 First Coast Expressway; owner’s representative for the FDOT District 2 I-75 FRAME Connected Vehicles Demonstration Project; and designer for Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s Southwest Bus Rapid Transit Corridor, among other projects.

HNTB has a 100+ year history in North Florida and the nation, beginning with design of the original Acosta Bridge in 1917. HNTB also designed the area’s signature Dames Point Bridge, winner of the prestigious 1990 American Consulting Engineers Council Grand Conceptor Award.
