Christopher Smith named Massachusetts operations manager at HNTB

Extensive infrastructure experience integral to successful transportation project delivery

BOSTON (Feb. 5, 2018) – Christopher Smith, PE, has been named Massachusetts operations manager for HNTB Corporation. Based in the firm’s Boston office, he serves as a member of the office leadership team, responsible for project staffing and financial performance to ensure the successful delivery of HNTB’s projects throughout Massachusetts.

“Topher is a respected transportation professional with broad experience working on major infrastructure projects — key factors contributing to his new role,” said Gary Bua, HNTB Massachusetts office leader and vice president. “He has strong leadership skills and continually seeks to understand what client’s needs are and how HNTB can respond to those needs.” 

At HNTB, Smith works on critical highway projects for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. His experience includes leading MassDOT feasibility studies as well as managing highway and bridge improvement projects. Smith’s background encompasses both design-build and conventional design-bid-build procurement methods. He joined HNTB in October of 2016 as a transportation project manager.

Smith is a graduate of Boston University with a Master of Business Administration, and he holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Michigan State University. He is vice president of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers, a member of American Council of Engineering Companies – Massachusetts, and Construction Industries of Massachusetts.
